Board of Directors


President Daniel C. Brown started with the SPFD in 1966. He initially served as a volunteer firefighter and was elected to the board of directors in 1970 where he still actively serves today. President Brown is a retired Black & Decker employee. He and his wife, Larue, enjoy their grand-children now that they are retired from full time employment.

Vice-President Larry D. Townsend joined the Stoney Point board of directors in 2008. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1992 after 20 years of service. He continues to serve our nation as a member of the civil service on Fort Bragg. He is a member of the United States Army Special Operations Command. He has served as a firefighter and treasurer for the Anderson Creek Volunteer Fire Department, which is located in Harnett County NC. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Political Science from East Carolina University and, a Master's in Administration (Public)from Central Michigan University. He and his wife Kathie reside in the Lake Upchurch area. They have 4 sons and 5 grandchildren.


Treasurer Alan R. Grupy and his wife Camile reside in the Lake Upchurch Community. Both are retired and enjoy traveling. Al has served in various capacities of the board of directors over the past 21 years.



Secretary Angus R. Pate is an SPFD board member veteran claiming over 21 years in service of the SPFD community. He is a retired civil service employee from Fort Bragg and is currently employed as a courier for a local medical company. Mr. Pate and, his wife who recently retired as a Cumberland County School teacher, enjoy their children and grand-children. Their youngest son, David, also serves Cumberland county as a professional firefighter.

Director J. Gary Turlington first joined the Stoney Point Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter in the fall of 1983 and served actively until he moved away in 1985. He re-joined SPFD in April 2011 as a member of the board of directors. He is a long time veteran member of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol serving since 1987. He is currently assigned to the Training Academy as a Specialized Training Unit Supervisor. He returned to the SPFD service area in 2002, where his family has lived since the late 1920's.


Director Jerry R. Hall is a long time SPFD contributor with over 13 years on the board of directors. He is self employed and, owns and operates a tree cutting service. Jerry is married and has three children.




Director Joel A. Siles has been serving as SPFD board of director member for the past 9 years. He is a sergeant with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, married with teenage children.
